Installation of a 1200A distribution line for the addition of a production line, without downtime. Based in Ville St-Laurent, Quebec, IPEX St-Laurent operates in the industrial sector, more specifically in the field of thermoplastic piping systems. Its plants specialize in the manufacture of pipes from recycled materials.
The project
The customer wants to install a new pipe production line in its existing plant.
The challenge
- Assess the feasibility of the project to verify the connection capacity of the existing electrical facilities.
- Design the project to be as effecient as possible in the short, medium and long term, which means to support the company’s future projects.
- Evaluate the breaking capacity (kA) and the risk category in order to have facilities without risk of live operation in case of emergency, which meet the CEC standards, that means Category 2 and less.
- Carry out the work without stopping production.
The solution
- Installation of a 1200A 480V distribution line
- The addition of a 1200A 480V CSA certified circuit breaker in the main electric entrance
- The power supply of the line and all its components
- The realization of a study of the risks of electric arc
- Update of the one-line diagram
- Connection and installation of a production data acquisition system (MES)
- Certification of the entire production line according to CCE standards.
The result
By installing a 1200A power line, the customer has sufficient connection capacity for future projects. We accompanied him in this reflection, thanks to the analysis of his short, medium and long term needs that we carried out at the design stage of the project. In addition, he can now follow his production in real time. Finally, the work was completed without any production downtime.
